17 and 18 March 2016 – Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

17 et 18 mars 2016 – Musée océanographie de Monaco - 8th International Monaco and the Mediterranean Meetings

Tomorrow the Mediterranean - How Can We Inhabit the World Differently?

Since they were founded in 2001, the International Monaco and the Mediterranean Meetings have brought renowned experts together for two days at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco to discuss topical issues.

Climate change and its effects on Mediterranean societies will be at the heart of the debates on 17 and 18 March 2016.

Scientists and intellectuals will address the impact of human activities on the Mediterranean ecosystem, which is putting the future of Man at risk.

The eighth Meetings aim to highlight the problems of environmental upheaval and changes in societies and find possible solutions to slow down these effects.

Twenty or so specialists from the North and South Mediterranean will debate the theme of "Tomorrow the Mediterranean.  How Can We Inhabit the World Differently?" and will answer the following questions at three round tables:

What is the meaning of the "anthropocene," this new geological era in which the main changes in the environment are caused by Man?  How can it be remedied by inventing new ways of acting and living?  How can we prepare for the necessary energy transition?  What is the place of new agriculture?   On what values can we build a new way of living together?

All these questions will be the subject of public lectures and debates, in which philosophers, scientists, artists and politicians will exchange their points of view to offer an objective analysis and suggest practical solutions.

These 8thMeetings are held under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and in partnership with the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.  They are part of Monaco's policy on sustainable development and follow on from the COP21.

Further information and details of the lectures and round tables are available on the web site:   www.rimm-mc.org and the latest news from the Meetings is on Facebook.
