Baccalaureate: March speciality subject examinations postponed

DR

Following the recent announcements made by the French Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sport on the holding of baccalaureate examinations, the Prince’s Government would like to clarify the impact for those attending lycées in the Principality of Monaco.

The key decisions which have been taken by the French Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sport are as follows:

Terminale (Year 13):

  • The speciality subject written examinations for the general and technological baccalaureates, which were scheduled for 14, 15 and 16 March 2022, have been postponed to 11, 12 and 13 May 2022.
  • The syllabus covered by these examinations will be the same as that set for March. As such, candidates will not need to revise additional topics, but will simply have more time to work on the original syllabus.
  • All subjects will be arranged in a way that ensures that each candidate has a choice of questions or exercises for their speciality subjects.
  • In lycées, the two days before the examinations will be devoted to revision of the speciality subjects being tested.
  • In place of the grades obtained by candidates in their speciality subject written examinations, the average grades achieved in these subjects during the three terms of Première (Year 12) and the first two terms of Terminale (Year 13) will be uploaded to the Parcoursup system.
  • Finally, the language proficiency tests are being cancelled for this year only.

Première (Year 12):

  • For the preliminary French oral examination taken by Première (Year 12) pupils, the number of texts to be presented will be reduced to 16 for the general baccalaureate and 9 for the technological baccalaureate.

All of these measures will apply in the Principality of Monaco’s lycées. On 13 May 2022, when there is no school in Monaco due to the Historic Grand Prix, pupils scheduled to sit examinations on that day will be able to attend school normally and take their tests under the usual conditions.

These arrangements also take account of the current health situation and its impact on candidates’ preparation, by establishing the best possible conditions to enable them to sit their baccalaureate examinations calmly.

Parents, pupils and teachers are invited to contact their school’s headteacher for more detailed information about how these measures will be applied in practice in each school.
