AS Monaco and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport launch the “Munegu Cup”

On Monday 5 June, over 280 pupils from the Principality will take part in the first “Munegu Cup”, organised jointly by the Club du Rocher and the Department of Education, Youth and Sport.

Created at the initiative of AS Monaco President Dmitry Rybolovlev, the tournament aims to promote exercise and highlight the educational values of sport.

Thirty-two co-ed teams of Year 4 (CE2) pupils from five Monegasque schools (*) will compete to win the AS Monaco President’s trophy at the grand premiere event, held at the Louis II Stadium. The UNSS (National School Sports Association) will provide support for refereeing, ensured by lower secondary school pupils from the Principality.

Children will be able to take part in a variety of recreational workshops organised alongside the event, which promotes sportsmanship and goodwill. Several surprises are in store for all participants.

The Department of Education, Youth and Sport is leading the learning initiative as part of the physical education programme in Principality schools.

For AS Monaco, the entirely youth-oriented project is the next stop on the Kids Tour, a circuit that has taken the team to meet more than 3,000 children in different towns across the region since the start of the season in September 2022.

AS Monaco President Dmitry Rybolovlev:

“AS Monaco is very important on the Principality’s sporting scene and in the lives of young Monegasques in particular. Practising a sport is essential for their personal growth and development in terms of physical health, team spirit, commitment, character, and self-control. AS Monaco is leading a variety of initiatives for young supporters and the launch of the “Munegu Cup”, a new event for schoolchildren, is wonderful. I thank Ms Isabelle Bonnal, Commissioner General for the Department of Education, Youth and Sport, for her support. This collaboration will most definitely help promote the values of sport and the benefits of physical activity for schoolchildren in Monaco.”
