Innovations for the New 2019-2020 School Year

In the presence of Msgr.  Bernard Barsi, Archbishop of Monaco, Patrice Cellario, Minister of Interior, Brigitte Boccone-Pagès, Vice-President representing the President of the National Council, and many dignitaries, Isabelle Bonnal, Director of Education, Youth and Sport, recently presented the main innovations for the new 2019 - 2020 school year.  The meeting was held at the new premises of the François d'Assise - Nicolas Barré school, where the start of the autumn term will take place next week, for the first time on this site. 

On Monday 9 September, 5,745 pupils (4,489 in the public sector, 1,256 in private education under contract) will return to school, overseen by 858 staff, 514 of whom are teachers. 

With a focus on educational transition, with a strong emphasis on developing digital practices, the coming school year will be characterised by:

- Continued implementation of the reform of the Baccalaureate, particularly for Year 12 classes, with the implementation of digital and technological science teaching (for Year 11 classes) and a choice of 3 specialised courses (for Year 12 classes).  Continuous assessment (for Year 12 classes) will be taken into account for up to 10% of the marks in the 2021 Baccalaureate;

- The teaching of computer programming for one hour per week for pupils aged 5 to 16;

- The pursuit of an intensive training policy, as a source of motivation for teachers. 

In a more general context, particular attention will be paid to inclusive schooling, "so that no child is left by the wayside," with, in particular, the creation of a new AIS class at secondary level, as well as an adaptation class and teaching for hospitalised pupils.  Note also that two new educational advisors have been recruited for secondary education, that the Collège Charles III has been refurbished, following the handover of the FANB school, that three new school sports (Ultimate, Zumba and basketball) are being taught and that the proportion of organic food in canteens has increased (to 40% of the components of the meal). 

Finally, note that the dress code has been generalised to include all primary schools, from Years 2 to 6.
