A Careers Information Week for High School Students

©DR

Supporting high school students in their choice of career is central to the concerns of the Department of Education, Youth and Sport.

Over the course of the school year, Careers Advisors/Psychologists, the National Education Information Center (CIEN) and head teachers have been undertaking a variety of activities to help students draw up coherent study plans, taking the aptitudes and preferences of each student into account.

To this end, individual interviews are held in each school, as are information sessions.

As a complement to these activities, a "Careers Advice Week" is taking place in the Principality's three State high schools and private high schools under contract during the month of April;  it will continue in May. The objectives of this event are as follows:

-        To raise awareness of training courses;

-        To raise awareness of occupations;  and

-        To create an individual career plan based on self-knowledge.

At this event, high school students can find out about the various courses of study available and can meet the heads of university courses, including France’s most prestigious universities (grandes écoles). They also have an opportunity to obtain information on options for financing their studies.

During this "Careers Advice Week," all high school students take part in self-knowledge workshops led by the company IRIS-Développement. This new activity, in the form of an escape game, enables each participant to better understand his or her own personality, in particular by discovering which skills and aptitudes he or she uses in a group dynamic.

The aim of this large-scale event, with more than 40 sessions in high schools, is to respond in a very practical, targeted way to students' needs.

All the activities offered to high school students are, of course, carried out in strict compliance with the health measures in force.
