Do you work in Monaco? Here’s how to avoid being inconvenienced by the French strikes on Thursday 5 December 2019

On Thursday 5 December, a general strike is set to affect a large part of France (transport, education, energy, waste, automotive sector, justice, police, refineries, teachers, students, police officers, lawyers, refuse collectors, etc.).

It will cause difficulties for many employees who come to work in the Principality.

Government recommendations relating to the strike:

Car sharing

This is an excellent alternative to public transport.

Consider using car sharing websites or apps to make arrangements, with colleagues, for example.

Teleworking

You can only work from home if teleworking has already been introduced and authorised in your company, and if you are eligible to be a teleworker.

With the agreement of your employer, you may switch your teleworking day within the limit of days permitted under your contract.

Taking a day’s leave

You could ask your employer whether he or she will allow you to take a day of leave.

You cannot, however, be forced to take holiday.

Government information relating to the strike:

What if, in spite of all this, I’m late or can’t get there?

This strike has been long planned and publicised. It is up to you to take note of it and make the necessary arrangements.

If you nonetheless find yourself stuck, we recommend that you inform your employer as soon as possible and collect evidence that provides proof of your circumstances (motorway toll receipt, photo, display panel, etc.).

It will be up to your employer to decide whether or not to pay you for the time you were absent.

Will taxi fares or hotel costs be reimbursed?

Employers will not be obliged to reimburse taxi or private car fares or hotel costs under any circumstances. Make sure that you secure agreement for these expenses to be covered in advance.
