All state-run construction projects to be shut down by end of week

Following a request from H.S.H. the Prince asking his Government to look at the specific issue of construction sites in terms of compliance with current health rules, implying that construction sites should be closed down, the following measures have been taken:

•             A ministerial decision will be published setting out the hygiene measures that companies – of whatever nature – should follow in their activities: barrier measures, social distancing, etc.

•             To continue working on a site, project owners will need to show that they are able to guarantee compliance with these measures.

•             Checks will be carried out to ensure proper compliance with health standards on sites that continue to operate. Any failure to comply with these standards will lead to the site being shut down immediately.

With respect to public construction projects, whether directly owned or delegated, the Government has decided to suspend these with a view to limiting health risks. This applies to the following sites: Helios; Jardins d’Apolline, Engelin; New Princess Grace Hospital; Ilot Pasteur; Northern Dock; Larvotto complex; Honoria; Ida; Testimonio II; Picapeira; Princess Grace Hospital maintenance; Exotic Garden city entrance; 17 Rue Princesse Florestine, and all works on public roads and in public spaces.

Marie-Pierre Gramaglia: “At this stage, it is envisaged that just one public project will be exempted from this general rule: the work on Quai des Etats-Unis. This work must continue in the absence of a decision to postpone or cancel the Formula 1 Grand Prix, since it is critical to enabling the event to be held under the right conditions.”

In all cases, for both public and private projects, the time required to make them safe means that work will continue, while easing off, probably until the end of the week.

All affected stakeholders in the construction industry have been informed of these measures.
