Creation of a Concrete Base for the Engelin Project

As part of the start of structural work by the State on the Engelin project, the base of the building is about to be created.

"Making this concrete base, which is major civil engineering work, will make it possible to use the so-called "UP & DOWN" technique.  This makes it possible to build the upper floor simultaneously with the lower floors, which house the car park," explained Olivier Lavagna, Director of Public Works.

This procedure involves pouring concrete continuously for a day, using a pump and concrete mixer trucks.  For logistic reasons, work on the site will take place via the upper part of the Avenue Hector Otto.

In this way, concrete trucks will reverse down the Hector Otto, from the mid-Corniche road to a pump situated above the roundabout.  The roundabout, which is used, for example, by buses on Route 3 (Fontvieille / Hector Otto, via the CHPG), can therefore be kept open.  The trucks will also exit via the mid-Corniche road.

This work will make it necessary to close access to the Avenue Hector Otto, from the mid-Corniche road, from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. as a minimum.

It will take six days to create the concrete base.  The first is scheduled for Thursday 31 March 2016;  the second for Tuesday 12 April.  The four last dates will be confirmed later, bearing in mind that the work will end before the end of May 2016.

Everything will be done to limit nuisance from the work and particular attention will be paid to monitoring sound levels.
