Security Exercise at the Rainier III Auditorium

Training and preparing personnel are important aspects of the Government's prevention policy.  To test the reaction of the Police and Rescue forces and the Public Prosecution Department, as well as coordination between these entities and with the French services, a major security exercise has just been launched at the Rainier III Auditorium, beginning at 7 p.m.

This large-scale exercise involves more than 400 people and a scenario that simulates the taking of hostages in the building.  The exercise will continue for much of the night.

The Police Department, the Fire and Emergency Service, the Public Prosecution Department, the Princess Grace Hospital, the Monegasque Red Cross, the Nurse Training Institute and various State Departments were mobilised for the occasion

The Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes and its departments are also involved in this operation, within the framework of cooperation established in the field of security.

To ensure that the operation runs smoothly, motorised and pedestrian traffic movements are affected in the area of the Louis II tunnel.  Therefore, until the end of the exercise during the night, the following will be interrupted:

  • vehicle and pedestrian traffic between the Quai JF Kennedy, by the chicane and the Portier roundabout, in both directions;
  • the mechanical lifts at the Casino and the Esplanade Boissy;
  • bus routes using the Louis II tunnel.

Local residents might notice a variety of noise nuisances until late evening (vehicle movements, detonations, sirens of emergency vehicles, etc).

This exercise is fully in line with the activities of the Principality's prevention policy in the field of civil protection and public security.  The Authorities thank the residents for their understanding with regard to the inconvenience caused by carrying out these operations.
