Frédéric Fautrier, Deputy Director of the Monaco Cyber Security Agency, and Bruno Valentin, the Agency’s Liaison Officer, took part in the 30th Annual Meeting of the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST) in Kuala Lumpur from 24 to 29 June.

Founded in 1990, FIRST is an association of cyber security incident response teams (CSIRTs) from more than 425 governmental bodies, universities, businesses and other institutions spread across 86 different countries. It promotes cooperation between response teams in the event of a cyber security incident. The Monaco Cyber Security Agency was admitted as a member of the association this year.

The discussions, presentations and training courses held during the annual meeting provided an opportunity to:

  • ·        gain a common understanding of intervention in the event of an IT incident
  • ·        put in place a trusted network to facilitate cross-border cooperation
  • ·        establish contact with peers across the world to enable a quicker response to attacks
  • ·        contribute, alongside international bodies, to setting standards

The FIRST meeting was followed on 29 and 30 June by the 13th Annual Technical Meeting for CSIRTs with National Responsibility. Organised by the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute, the meeting provided an opportunity to address the current problems, tools, methods and regulations applicable to CSIRTs.
