The Employment Tribunal held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 15 January, bringing together all members appointed on a parity basis from the employer and employee groups.

The body, which is administratively part of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, has 48 members: 24 representing employers and 24 representing employees. Its Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected every three years.

Since it was set up more than 74 years ago, the institution has helped to resolve conflicts between employers and employees in the private sector, and to settle trade disputes.

At this year’s Annual General Meeting, Mr Karim Tabchiche, the current Chairman, welcomed the work done during 2019, in which the Tribunal handled nearly 95 cases.

He also thanked Mr Robert Gelli, the new Secretary of Justice, for listening, noting that he “had been kind enough to visit the Tribunal’s offices and to talk to everyone working in the secretariat.”

Following the General Meeting, Karim Tabchiche and Vice-Chairman Michel Gramaglia welcomed the authorities* who traditionally close the meeting held at the start of the new year.

* The following were in attendance: Robert Gelli, Secretary of Justice, Didier Gamerdinger, Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Valérie Viora-Puyo, Director-General of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, Michel Soriano, Justice of the Peace and Chair of the Judgment Panel, Muriel Dorato-Chicouras, Vice-President of the Court of Appeal, Caroline Rougaignon-Vernin, Chair of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, Pascale Pallanca, Director of the Department of Employment
