During the Telethon Merci ceremony organised on Wednesday 30 March by members of the Office of the Association for the Promotion and Organisation of the Monaco Telethon (OTM), Minister of Health and Social Affairs Stéphane Valeri officially announced Monaco’s candidacy as an ambassador city for the thirtieth Telethon.

“Monaco’s candidacy to be an ambassador city for Telethon 2016 is a clear indication, in front of millions of TV viewers, of the commitment of an entire country to help those who are disabled, through an ambitious health and social policy and by mobilising everyone, particularly in the charity sector, to support it. It would be a fantastic opportunity to help people better understand the Monaco we love, a country of solidarity and generosity,” he added.

Fifteen cities have put themselves forward to be ambassadors for the 2016 Telethon. The final selection will be unveiled at the end of April.

For her part, Muriel Agliardi, President of the OTM, shared the results of Telethon 2015, and called for the mobilisation of new volunteers to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Telethon: “thanks to the enormous efforts of our volunteers and despite the very unfavourable weather conditions, the 2015 Telethon was still a success, raising €89,824.” She also expressed her hope that the weather would play its part during next year’s event and help break the €100,000 barrier.

The charity event is scheduled for 2 and 3 December 2016.“Two days, but a year-long job,” reiterated the OTM President, who supports the efforts of the volunteers working day in, day out to ensure that the Telethon is well organised.
