As part of its volunteer programme, the Department of International Cooperation has just sent a new Monaco International Volunteer to work in the field.  Charlotte Gamba has begun her mission at the Ephata school, which is supported by Monaco's Official Development Assistance.  This specialist school provides education for blind and partially sighted children in Fianarantsoa, Madagascar.

Founded in 2002 by the Congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, Ephata offers support that is adapted for visual disability, enabling children to benefit from an education and become as autonomous as possible.

During her year of voluntary work, Charlotte, who is a trained lawyer, will be tasked with assisting Ephatas's Administrative and Financial Officer, and in particular organising training in employment law.

She will also help implement and develop educational programmes at the school, particularly educational support in French and English.

Finally, this 24-year-old Monegasque national will be responsible for developing an income-generating activity for the school – the introduction of a collective "bush taxi" service between Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, and Fianarantsoa.

Currently, six Monaco International Volunteers are on a long-term mission in three of the priority countries targeted by Monaco's Official Development Assistance (Morocco, Burkina Faso and Madagascar).

As a reminder, each volunteer vacancy is advertised in the Journal de Monaco (www.gouv.mc ).  Job descriptions vary according to the needs of the partners of Monaco's Official Development Assistance.  Application forms are available on the Department of International Cooperation's web site, at www‑cooperation-monaco.gouv.mc, under the heading "International Volunteers of Monaco."
