On Tuesday 11 December 2018, the Residence of Monaco’s Ambassador in Italy hosted a lecture on the Grimaldi dynasty by Thomas Fouilleron, Director of the Prince’s Palace Archives and Library. In his presentation, Mr Fouilleron highlighted the changing status of the royal family, its actions from the thirteenth to the twenty-first centuries, and its role in asserting Monaco as a sovereign state on the international stage.

He drew particularly on the documents and works recently presented to the Chinese public as part of an exhibition at the Forbidden City in Beijing. The exhibition was a huge success, attracting more than 500,000 visitors.

This broad panorama of the Principality’s history over the last seven centuries was much appreciated by the Italian audience.

The evening concluded with a cocktail reception given by H.E. Mr Robert Fillon, Monaco’s Ambassador in Italy, and his wife.
