O.S.C.E. - Monaco Takes Part in the 27th Meeting of the Ministerial Council

Laurent Anselmi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, accompanied by a delegation*, took part in the 27th meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (O.S.C.E.), which took place by videoconference on 3 and 4 December 2020, under the Presidency of Albania.

In his speech, delivered to more than 600 participants, including 53 Ministers from the fifty-seven  O.S.C.E. Member States, Laurent Anselmi congratulated the Albanian Presidency for the work it had carried out resolutely throughout 2020, in the exceptional context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In particular, he welcomed the consensus reached on the appointment of the four Heads of the O.S.C.E. Institutions**, thereby putting an end to the institutional crisis that the Organisation had been undergoing for several months.

In addition, the Minister paid tribute to the central role played by the O.S.C.E. in promoting peace, stability and security, as well as in the search for lasting, peaceful solutions to the conflicts in its area of influence.

He also noted that, regrettably, the socio-economic crisis caused by the health situation is having a very severe impact on the most vulnerable people, highlighting, more specifically, the need to protect victims of human trafficking in particular.

Finally, pointing out that the climate crisis and the issue of access to natural resources are vectors of political instability and conflict, Mr. Anselmi recalled that "no State can face the current international challenges alone" and that "only by strengthening the role of multilateral organisations and collective action will it be possible to address the many challenges we face."

*:  H.E. Mr. Frédéric Labarrère, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Monaco to the O.S.C.E.;  Mr. Lorenzo Ravano, Deputy Permanent Representative;  and Mrs. Anaïs Kemblinsky-Fanjat, Secretary of External Relations.
