On 29 January 2021, H.E. Ms. Catherine Fautrier-Rousseau presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain, accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Him.

The official ceremony took place at the Royal Palace and was followed by a private meeting in the presence of His Majesty the King and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation, Ms. Arancha Gonzales Laya.

During this meeting, various issues were discussed, in particular the current situation and consequences of the health crisis for both countries.

In terms of environmental protection, the challenges to be met for future generations were discussed at length, as well as collaboration on these points that could be undertaken between Monaco and Spain.

King Felipe VI, who is very aware of the impacts of pollution on ecosystems and urban populations, addressed issues related to energy transition and highlighted the expertise that the Principality of Monaco could offer Spain in this field.

Common interests with regard to protecting the Mediterranean were also discussed, enabling the Ambassador to refer to the commemorations in 2022 for the centenary of the death of Prince Albert I and the ties of friendship that he maintained with the Spanish Crown throughout his reign.  Several events will be held in Spain in this respect.

The Ambassador assured His Majesty of her commitment to developing and strengthening the links between Monaco and Spain.
