On Wednesday, the Principality of Monaco received the High Security Printing Award in the category “Best new ID card and travel document” for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region.

With its unique ID card, valid in both the physical and online worlds, this flagship infrastructure of the Extended Monaco programme was rewarded for its security, in line with the highest international standards, its technology, and the quality of services it offers to Monegasque nationals and residents.

The digital identity for Monegasques and residents was developed in the space of just 18 months by the Interministerial Delegation for Digital Transition, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the Police Department, Monaco City Hall, and the Agence Monégasque de Sécurité Numérique, and with the assistance of IN Groupe, a key global player in identity solutions and digital services.

The award crowns an ambitious project that is a hallmark of sovereignty for the Principality of Monaco and a symbol of its values, focused on excellence and security.

“This digital identity is crucial for Monaco’s attractiveness and modernisation in the post-Covid world, similar to solutions offered to citizens and residents in Singapore and Luxembourg. It is essential for maintaining our quality of life, guaranteeing the security of our data, and continuing to attract talents from all over the world,” explains Frédéric Genta, Country Chief Digital Officer.

Almost a year after the Monegasque digital identity was officially launched by the Minister of State, Pierre Dartout, nearly 6,000 residents have already activated their digital identity, opening up a range of benefits:

-          Simplified access to a one-stop-shop of Public Services from a computer or smartphone, via MonGuichet.mc ;

-          An electronic signature with legal value, under Act No. 1,482 of 17 December 2019 “For a Digital Principality”;

-          Easier login to services provided by private sector partners, Monaco Telecom, and the electricity and gas provider SMEG;

-          Two-factor authentication to combat identity theft effectively.

“This Award recognises not only the high quality of our ID cards, which are now among the most modern and secure in the world, but also the efficient collective efforts of the teams at City Hall, the Prince’s Government, and IN Groupe, for the benefit of Monegasques and residents,” says Nicolas Croesi, Deputy Mayor in charge of the Digital Transition.
