Last night, rough seas battered the beaches along the coast.  The Principality was not spared by these exceptional meteorological conditions, which violently affected the Monegasque coastline.  A weather alert issued late yesterday afternoon warned of heavy rain, but a heavy swell pounded the coast, causing extensive damage, particularly to the Larvotto seaside resort.

In the early morning, Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Minister of Public Works, the Environment and Urban Development, called upon the staff and resources of the Department of Urban Amenities to clear and clean up the affected area, in association with the SMA.  Marie-Pierre Gramaglia, Jean Castellini, Minister of Finance and Economy, Jean‑Luc Puyo, Director of Urban Amenities, and Remy Rolland, Director of the State Property Authority, then went to Larvotto to meet the traders and managers of the seaside resorts and assess the full extent of the situation.

Marie-Pierre Gramaglia stated that "The storm that hit us last night was out of proportion to what had been predicted.  The personnel of the Department of Urban Amenities (DAU) and the Department of Maritime Affairs (DAM) have been mobilised.  After cleaning the area, the staff of the DAU and the DAM will increase protective measures against further heavy seas."  Jean Castellini confirmed that "Everything will be done to clean up and make an assessment and offer help and support to those who have lost a lot."

Marie-Pierre Gramaglia then went to the Port of Fontvieille to see the premises of the Roca Jet Club, which were badly affected, and to the heliport in Fontvieille.  The two removable platforms of the heliport, the safety nets and the facades of the hangars that face the sea were affected, but with little impact on helicopter traffic.

The sea wall off the coast of Port Hercule is also being inspected.  Because of this, the car park has been closed temporarily for safety reasons.

The State Departments remain on alert for a new weather event, which is expected in the next 48 hours.
