A message from the Prince’s Government

It was with great sadness that the Prince’s Government learned yesterday of the death of Monseigneur Bernard Barsi, the Archbishop Emeritus of the Principality of Monaco, where he officiated as the head of the Diocese for 20 years.

Throughout these years, until his retirement in 2020, Monseigneur Bernard Barsi guided Monaco’s Catholic community with benevolence and fellowship. Always ready and willing to lend an ear to the faithful, he knew how to offer advice and comfort to everyone. His humanity was unanimously recognised and valued.

Following his episcopal ordination on 8 October 2000, he was involved in and a privileged spectator to moments of joy and sadness within the Monegasque community, and to major religious events in support of the Royal Family and the people of the Principality.

The Prince’s Government offers its sincerest condolences to his family, and to members of the Monaco Diocese and the Catholic community in the Principality.
