Screening of documentary Monaco et la Guerre

The Théâtre Princesse Grace hosted a screening of Monaco et la Guerre (Monaco and the War) yesterday evening, in the presence of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince. The documentary was directed by journalist and writer Frédéric Laurent, and co-produced by the Prince’s Government Communication Department, the copyright collective Société pour la Gestion des Droits d'Auteur (SOGEDA) and H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince’s Estate Administration.

Following the screening, those interviewed in the film were invited onto the theatre’s stage with their loved ones for an emotional “family photo” alongside the Sovereign.

Monaco et la Guerre is a well-documented depiction of life in the Principality between 1939 and 1945. The emotions of the various interviewees, the quality of the editing and the symbolic value of the film make this a captivating account of Monaco’s ties with this period of world history. It took more than four years to produce.

Given the educational content of the film and its heritage value, it was first screened in January for an audience of teachers and the ‘Pour le Devoir de Mémoire’ association. It will also be broadcast on Monaco Info on Tuesday 1 May at 7 pm.

Further reporting will follow on our social media pages and on Monaco Info, starting at 7 pm this evening.
