A crisis and new Franco-Monegasque agreements

The government of General De Gaulle took advantage of serious disagreement on the financial control of radio stations to call into question all relations between France and Monaco. Agreements on cooperation and assistance were repealed and from May, workers and residents of Monegasque nationality in France became subject to legislation for foreigners. On 12 October, when the repeal of the Neighbourhood Agreement came into effect, France established customs and police controls on the border and, on 18 October, applied international postage rates.

In February 1963, to prevent tax evasion simply by settling on Monegasque soil, an agreement was made that ensured the introduction of taxation on profits for companies making over 25% of their profits abroad and for French citizens living in Monaco. On 18 May, new agreements were signed in the following areas: tax, customs, cooperation and assistance, postal, telegraphic and telephone communications and pharmacy and insurance regulation.
