On 19 June 2023, Monaco’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Principality’s admission to the international organisation. The event is part of commemorations for the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III.

A special concert by the Orchestra of the Palace Guards is organised by Monaco’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and held in the emblematic General Assembly Hall at the organisation’s headquarters.

Conducted by Major Olivier Dréan, the Orchestra will offer an eclectic score that is both traditional and modern. The Monegasque national anthem will be played in this symbolic location. The event will be attended by H.S.H. Prince Albert II, together with H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie, the Chair of the Prince Rainier III Commemoration Committee and UNAIDS Ambassador since 2006, as well as Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

To mark this historic date for the Principality, Ambassador Isabelle Picco will invite 500 guests to join H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince at a reception held at United Nations Headquarters.

Guests will be able to view an emblematic photo exhibition on the ties forged between Monaco and the United Nations over the last 30 years.

Alongside these festivities, on Monday 19 June, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince will meet with the Chair of the 77th session of the General Assembly and later with UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.

The Orchestra of the Palace Guards will play again on Tuesday 20 June in another iconic New York location: Times Square. The 30 musicians of the Orchestra will be accompanied by the NYPD Police Band.

The Orchestra of the Palace Guards of Monaco

The Orchestra of the Palace Guards was established in 1966 at the behest of Prince Rainier III. At the time, six volunteer Palace Guards made up the ‘Clique of the Palace Guards’. The group was later named the Palace Guards Brass Band in 1978 before it became the Orchestra of the Palace Guards in 2014.

The band is primarily made up of brass and wind instruments, with trumpets, trombones and saxophones at its core. It occasionally welcomes strings, keyboards and a singer. The Orchestra performs at national events as well as at concerts around the world. H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie became the patron of the Orchestra of the Palace Guards in 2017.
