The Principality was represented at the 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, devoted to the issues of innovation and technological change, by Second Secretary Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, who highlighted the importance of educating women and girls in digital technology, and of working to prevent cyberbullying.

At the initiative of the Monegasque delegation, the document that was adopted following some tricky negotiations recognises that women in public life and sport face higher levels of violence.

This theme was also the focus of the event organised by UN Women and the International Olympic Committee, held at the Principality of Monaco’s Permanent Mission.

Lydia Nsekera, a member of the International Olympic Committee and Chair of the Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Commission, took the opportunity to announce a new joint initiative to further gender equality and prevent gender-based violence in sport.

Sarah Hendriks, Director of the UN Women Programme, Policy and Intergovernmental Division, thanked the Principality for its financial support of the central organisation for women’s rights within the United Nations.
